Homecoming Scotland

Homecoming Scotland 2009 marks the 250th anniversary of the birth of Robert Burns, Scotlands laureate.  A huge number of events are planned for this year throughout Scotland and Bute’s local poet and chanteuse, Jenny Brown has written a poem to commemorate the year. And here it is:

Jocky’s Comin’  Hame
A’m oan ma way hane tae Scotland
A’ve been awa’ faur too long
Quite oafen a gote
A lump in ma throat
When a heard a Scottish song

But today a’m fair excited
Tae me new freens a’ve jist waved ‘Ta ta’
Ma case us stacked
Wi’ pressies a’ve packed
An’ a’ll soom see ma Maw an’ ma Da’

A’ve planned whit a’ll dae when a get there
(That’s efter we’ve hud a wee greet)
Fish suppers at ‘Tony’s’
A bet oan the ponies
An’ a few jaurs in Sauchiehall Street

While a blend wi’ the crowd a’ll be proud
Tae rub shooders wi’ kinfolk o’ mine
Wi’ ma erm roon a lass
A’ll raise ma glass
Tae Rabbie an’ Auld Lang Syne

Jenny’s poem can be bought in a gift card from the Castle Gallery in Rothesay High St.
